The facts: 16 percent of the time we read, something printed, text message, Facebook, twitter or a manual of the vacuum cleaner. Nine percent of the time we write: that text message again, an e-mail, a rare\nletter or grocery list. Thirty percent of the time we speak: dear words, harsh language, smart things, stupid nonsense. And then there is still: 45 percent left. Then what do we do. Listen, because that's what we're supposed to do: listen. 45 percent of our communication is all about listening. And that is only partially true because on average we don't hear 25 percent of what is said. A quarter, often essential information and valuable emotion completely passes us by.
