How do you get the right attention?

Tell a story. Tell a good story. Telling a good story is a craft that has been around for centuries. It relaxes, it learns, it helps and it comforts. A good story has its own requirements:

It must be partly known.Film company bosses know very well that there are three reasons people go to see a movie: the title, the actors and the subject. Two household names are enough, three sentences to explain the plot as well. In many cases, it doesn't matter that you know the ending in advance as long as it’s a good story: the Titanic sinks. It must be relevant. It must matter, have meaning, appeal. American children's author Stephenie Meyer had a dream about a young girl who falls in love with a vampire. A balanced dose of fantasy and romance has turned the Twilight series into a book, film and a game that touches an audience of millions. It must be appealing. It must be about something with which the audience has, or can have, a connection. Despite a background of vampires and werewolves, Twilight is a story about teenagers' concerns: relationships, fidelity, and the first time. It has to be memorable. That sounds obvious, but it is essential: you have to want to pass on the story. Anyone who enters somewhere and says: "would you like to know something?" Has a good story. If you don't want to know, it's not a good story. It must be able to be told in a few sentences and it must want to be told again and again: from Robin Hood, Romeo and Juliet, And Then There Were None, Les Misérables to Star Wars.
