How can you organize your words and thoughts?

There are two main techniques for creating order in words and thoughts. Good choice of material is important and a robust structure even so.

The development method 

This consists of four steps and organizes the material from bottom to top. Inventorize. Put together all the material that you have stored , or researched, in connection with your topic. Text, images, sound, objects, videos, stories, anecdotes, quotes. Classify. Create substantive sections in which you give the parts a place. Make sure you can store all your equipment. Seven categories is good, three is better. Organize. Put an order to your categories. A logical order is good, but an emotional order can also work, or geographical, or chronological. Whatever suits your purpose, your style and yourself. Eliminate. Delete, discard and limit what you want to say to the bare essentials. 

The overview method. 

It also consists of four steps, but it organizes the material from top to bottom. Label. State the topic you want to cover. Specify. Create categories that you want to be covered. Organize. Order the sub-topics you want to cover. Provide them with stories, examples and other material. Eliminate. Get rid of anything unnecessary. Only keep the essence of content and form. Limit your speaking time to twenty minutes.
