The secret to pleasure and even ecstasy in work lies in: the flow. When you perform an activity that simultaneously has meaning, skill and a degree of difficulty , then you come into a state of flowing consciousness. The American professor Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi calls that flow. The concepts of time and place fade and you become completely absorbed in the action. The combination of the above three factors is essential. Things like food and drink are also necessary and can be experienced as pleasant, but true pleasure comes only when the three components mentioned above are present in the correct proportion. The fact that you have a direction and setting a goal will also increase the intensity of the satisfaction.
